Workshop on Teacher Training

Minutes / Proceedings of the two day workshop on teacher training for academic staff

A two day teacher training workshop for faculty members of academic departments at Abasyn University has been conducted at the Peshawar Campus on 1st and 2nd August, 2016. The proceedings of the training started at 9: 00 AM and went on to conclude at 4: 00 PM.

Professor Dr. Zakia Ali, Dean of Education, Dr. Sajjad Akhtar and Mr. Aqeel Wahab Siddiqui, Controller Examination acted in the capacity of resource persons.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Jamil Ahmad while inaugurating the training workshop stated the basic purpose of the workshop to be the convergence of views by all associated with the academic arena on identifying issues that need to be addressed instantly in terms of taping the opportunities and facing the new challenges in the avenue of higher education. He said that shared insight, vision, experience and strategies which through fruitful discussion during the workshop sessions will lead towards new ideas and approaches to take the University to new heights and make it a marvel of academic excellence in the region.

The topics selected by the experts for the workshop were diverse teaching practices, implementation of teaching programs, educational methods, assessment and evaluation and introduction of resources and feedback. In an atmosphere of reflection, participants have been engaged in daily activities such as:

Inquiry and dialogues

Interrogating our own educational narratives

Designing learning environments, academia from scratch

Journal writing

Role play (myths of teaching and learning)

Classroom observations

Study of educational articles on the aims of academia and the foundations of teaching

Communication and collaborative work in different settings

Silence and Quiet time

Developing a learning/teaching portfolio

According to the feedback received from workshop participants, the training sessions amicably attained the stipulated objectives planned for the activities to be used to guide the teachers towards the learning objectives.

The concluding session was chaired by the Chancellor, Abasyn University Mr. Imranullah Khan who awarded the certificates among the workshop participants and souvenirs to the resource persons.
